The Essex Green, from Brooklyn, NY, play an infectious brand of indie folk pop, and their new album, Cannibal Sea (Merge Records), is receiving some nice reviews. Silent Uproar said the following:
Sharing vocal responsibilities, Chris Ziter, Sasha Bell and Jeff Baron create a unique blend of music that’s easily accessible, but anything than ordinary. You can stream some of their music here and here, and there’s an MP3 below, courtesy of Pitch Perfect PR.

Cannibal Sea pulls its nuances from a mishmash of like-minded artists who put the heaviest importance on melody and harmony. While the band depends on the past to inform their sound, there's also an intense reliance on their modern counterparts--The Shins (minus the quirkiness), Jens Lekman (without the sense of arrangement), or the aforementioned New Pornos. Songs tend to be straightforward affairs, keys pumping and harmonies flying high.
