Serra at MoMA + Wilco + Lily Allen's Dirty Mouth

Every time I'm in New York City, I go to MoMA. If I don't have time to enjoy the museum, I at least wander around their store - last time I bought an Ugly Doll. I would have much rather seen the new Richard Serra exhibit, however, but my visit was a month too soon...

This exhibition presents the artist's forty-year career, from his early experiments with materials such as rubber, neon, and lead to monumental late-career pieces, including Intersection II (1992) and Torqued Ellipse IV (1999), along with three new works that have never been exhibited before. With works on view throughout the Museum and in The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden, Richard Serra Sculpture: Forty Years displays the extraordinary vision of this formidable artist, who has radicalized and extended the definition of sculpture.

Yesterday, I looked at the online exhibit, but I'd much rather see Serra's tremendous sculptures in person. That said, I still recommend checking out the online exhibit.



Nate Chinen discuses a live Wilco show in The New York Times and posts three tracks from Sky Blue Sky, including Either Way (MP3).

Mr. Tweedy seemed loose and agreeable, the band sounded lean and combustible, and the songs felt sturdy in their purpose. There were bolts of feedback and static, but they fulfilled a function, bridging themes or clearing the air.

Jada Yaun of New York Magazine spent a day with UK pop star Lily Allen (yes, I have her new album) and found out the dirty-mouthed singer is a handful.



In addition to her article, Lily Allen's Escape to New York, Jada contributed a day-in-the-life post to NYMag's entertainment blog, Vulture.

On the biggest difference between America and England: "Here they get their snatches waxed. I get a strip, a runway strip. I don't think I could get it done in England. They stare at it. They spend ages doing it. It's like, 'Get it over and fucking done with!'"

On the 2008 election: "Al Gore's going to come in at the last minute and it's going to be Gore as president and Obama for vice-president. You can [photograph] my tits if Al Gore is not president in two year's time."
