Lucas Aguirre

Lucas Aguirre is an artist from Córdoba, Argentina who creates amazing artwork in multiple mediums. From quirky digital pieces to classic nudes, Lucas's creations are quite varied but always engaging.

Lucas was kind enough to answer a few of my questions via email and here is part of our conversation.

I'm always interested in artist's influences - what influences your work?

A lot of artists, mhhh, Lucien Freud, Klimt, Schielle, David Choe, Maureen Gubia, Ian Francis, Mark Ryden, Audrey Kawasaki,Alex Grey, Kent Williams, Bisley, Frazetta, Velazquez, man a loot of people, and some particular works of artists not cited here, like the millions i see in fotologs, bloggers, deviantart... i get influenced also by experiences with emotions, people., drugs, music.

So, do you really like Pac-Man (see Lucas's DeviantArt page)?

No, not really :D. when i played a lot Mortal Kombat kicked my brain.

You use quite a few mediums in your work - does your artistic process change, depending on the medium you use?

Yes, because of the possibilities of the medium, the randomness of traditional media, the undo possibilities in digital.. its great! lately I'm trying to combine both, paint on printed canvases, that kind of things, trying to get the best of both worlds.

Do you listen to music when you work? If so, do you have any favorite musical artists?

Yes, I listen to all kind of things, But the kind of music I like is generally fast, complex electronic music, like drillnbass, some types of idm and breakcore, right now I'm listening Emotional Joystick, I like Aphex Twin, DuranDuranDuran, Squarepusher, Venetian Snares, Xplodin Plastix, that kind of music sometimes draw things inside my head.

Tell me a little about 'Dos'. It's one of my favorites.

Dos is a composition experiment that I did when I was in art school, done from a set of photos we did with a group of friends that study there. The two persons on the painting are girls of the group. very close friends of mine, the one on the lower part, with her crazy hairs used to be my girlfriend in that times. We arranged those sets of photos focusing on relations between people and intimacy, and I tried to rearrange the picture paying attention to composition elements.
