Simple questions often prompt interesting answers, so with this in mind I created a list of thirteen questions for a new interview series. Some of the questions I borrowed from the Proust and Pivot questionnaires, and others are my own. The questions are meant to be fun—for the interviewee and the reader—so I cut out the ones regarding Moby Dick and Ishmael. Maybe next time.
Today's questionnaire was answered by Tim Perry, the lead singer and founder of Pseudosix, and I have to give him this: he doesn't pull punches.
From the The Corrections to Cool Hand Luke, Tim has good taste in books and movies, although I do disagree with his vitriolic opinion of The Bourne Ultimatum. But enough about me...

What is your favorite book?
Two that I have read recently and really liked were The Corrections (Jonathan Franzen) and Revolutionary Road (Richard Yates). You know, your usual depressing synopsis on the woes of ordinary existence and the tattered remnants of the American dream.
What is your favorite album?
That's impossible to answer. This much I can say: My first favorite album was Pyromania [by] Def Leopard. I remember my dad handing it to me as an afterthought and saying “oh yeah...do you want this?” I think it was pushed on him by some record club scam; the kind that would send you stuff unsolicited and if you didn't send it back in time, you had to pay for it. At any rate, he had no use for it. But he sure as shit didn't know what was on it or he wouldn't have given it to me. I played the threads right off of that album. I was seven.
What is your favorite film?
I saw Bourne Ultimatum the other day at the request of a friend, and that movie was the biggest pile of dogshit I've ever had to sit through. Just a bunch of cheap and blurry fight scenes.
But I liked that movie, Pan's Labyrinth. Also, I like Casablanca. Also, I like The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. And Cool Hand Luke. And The Hustler (speaking of Paul Newman). I have a feeling I'll like The Lives of Others, but I haven't had a chance to see that yet. I really like Gimme Shelter and Don't Look Back.
What is your biggest pet peeve?
Well, speaking of movies, I hate the fact that commercials are now played in theaters before the movie. What the fuck? I just paid $10! Also, I don't like liars. And I hate hippie bands named after food (Leftover Salmon, String Cheese Incident, and the like). I'm pretty sure they're trying to be “zany.” I don't like it when you let someone in your lane, and they don't do the wave thing. I hate product placement and knee-jerk patriotism. Not too crazy about jerry curls, plastic utensils, or lead poisoning. I don't like it when Aaron Neville wears a leather vest with no shirt underneath. And I really can't stand parents who don't clean up their children's messes at a restaurant.
What is your favorite place?
I like the woods.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I would like to be a garbage man. Not the one that drives. But the one who hangs off the back while the truck moves from stop to stop.
What is your biggest indulgence?
I used to like sugar a lot. I mean, I ate a lot of motherfucking donuts, let me tell you. Donuts and milkshakes. I have the metabolism of a squirrel. I can eat a slab of pork fat the size of a tire and still I gain no weight. But sugar started making me sick. Made me dizzy. Forgetful. Lethargic. So I had to give it up. I feel better now.
What is your favorite food?
People.
What is your favorite word?
I have two: legislature and mortgage.
What is your least favorite word?
Ball club. “Ball” is fine. “Club,” I got no beef with. But the two words put together make me clinch my jaw.
Who do you least respect?
Cops who do drugs.
Who do you most respect?
Cops who do drugs.
When and where did you answer these questions?
Two months before my next Birthday. In a house.
