I mentioned this morning that the jazz posts were coming, and here we go...
This is a great 1959 performance of So What with Miles Davis on Trumpet, John Coltrane on Tenor Sax, Wynton Kelly on Piano, Jimmy Cobb on Drums and Paul Chambers on Bass. Miles Davis epitomizes cool, and Coltrane is coming into his own (he formed his own quartet in 1960). Check out Miles smoking a cigarette during Coltrane's solo.
If you like this performance, I recommend Kind of Blue, which has the studio cut of So What and is one of the greatest albums ever recorded.
