Oscar Peterson & Roy Eldridge - Perdido (1977)

Oscar Peterson can play like no other, and it's evident in this performance of Perdido from Montreux in 1977. Of course, having Roy Eldridge and his trumpet by your side can't hurt. Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen on bass. Bobby Durham on the drums.

The song opens with Eldridge soloing, and at 6:21 Pederson's bass rhythms kick in as the track really begins. At 4:52, Oscar takes over and makes the piano cry - he scats in his patented mumbly way and plays some stride piano too. The band rejoins him at 3:58, Eldridge solos again at 2:58, and Durham takes over at 2:33 with a drum solo and at 1:43 with a crazy drum solo. The track ends with Eldridge hitting high notes and the band jamming. Now take it back to 4:04 and watch Durham dance on his stool...
