If you had asked me a few weeks ago, I would have had a much more severe opinion of the album, but now after countless listens, I'm starting to appreciate the subtleties. I know as time goes on, I'm going to discover more and more I like about the collection of songs, I've just never had to dig this deep before when it comes to these Vancouver icons.Daytrotter - Four songs from singer-songwriter Laura Gibson.

The command post is a set of Manhattan publishing offices, and the foot soldiers include Joan Didion, Seymour Hersh, Bob Woodward, Anna Quindlen, Alex Kotlowitz, Paul Hendrickson, Samantha Power and Bill Walton. They are going on David Halberstam’s book tour for him. Five months after Mr. Halberstam’s death in a car accident on April 23, some of this celebrated journalist’s closest friends and colleagues will be banding together to cover different legs of a nationwide publicity tour for his final book. Hyperion is releasing that 705-page history, “The Coldest Winter: America and the Korean War,” on Sept. 25, with a first printing of 300,000 copies, the publisher announced.Authors on Tour - Live! - Jonathan Lethem (one of my favorite authors) reads from his latest novel, You Don't Love Me Yet.

The New York Times - Ben Harper discusses his album preferences.
Bob Dylan: “Modern Times” (Columbia) is a wicked record. The great thing is, he’s still putting pen to paper. If you can have a song like “Blowin’ in the Wind” in the ’60s and have a song like “When the Deal Goes Down” in 2006, you’re having an unprecedented run of writing consistently incredible songs. I hate to wax poetic, I annoy myself to no end. I want to talk about how haunting this record is, but it also moves, it jumps. The New York Times - Max Roach remembered.
Max Roach was remembered at his funeral not just as a brilliant drummer who helped bring about radical changes in American music, but also as a committed activist who worked hard to bring about radical changes in American society. Mr. Roach “used his music as an instrument of our struggle,” the Rev. Calvin O. Butts III of Abyssinian Baptist Church said in eulogizing Mr. Roach, who died on Aug. 16 at the age of 83.Downloads:
