Roundup: Calvin Trillin, RSS, Arcade Fire, Menomena

In Scenes from a Marriage, Peter Stevenson of The New York Times discusses Calvin Trillin's book, About Alice, which was partially published in The New Yorker last year and briefly mentioned on this site.
Sometimes we come across a piece of first-person writing that shocks us back into a restorative innocence vis-à-vis the human heart. The secret of Calvin Trillin’s slim but walloping book, “About Alice,” is that its structure follows the contours of an old-fashioned piece of reportage, using a scrim of detachment to build tension and, when that is pulled aside, revealing an underlying core of enchantment.
Frantic Industries discusses how to blend RSS feeds in The RSS Cookbook and offers 10 helpful examples.
There is an interesting development in the world of RSS. At first, RSS feeds were mostly used for frequently updated but fixed content, for example, latest articles on a website. Lately, many sites are incorporating RSS feeds for content which can be rapidly changing, like searches or tags. On top of that, there are ways to combine (or blend - hence the cookbook) several RSS feeds into one feed (using RSS mixers), which makes for some interesting possibilities.
In regards to music, The Arcade Fire's new album, Neon Bible, is due out March 6th, and the track Black Mirror [MP3] is circling its away around the blogosphere. It's a good track, so the circling makes sense.

And, to wrap up the roundup, the guys over at Hero Hill revamped their site. It's looking really nice, and they just posted a review of the new Menomena album (a record I need to give a second chance).
